The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a pearl in the water works construction of ancient China. Built over 2,200 years ago, it still provides benefits for the people. The irrigation system was erected on the Minjiang River in the Sichuan province. I doubt this bit was built 2,200 years ago. I wasn't that interested when told we were going to see an irrigation system but was pleasantly surprised. The taoist religion also developed in this area so the side of the mountain is dotted with temples and beautiful gardens which we also visited.

These were infront of a restaurant and I noticed the steam coming off them as I approached. When I mentioned them to others later in the day they suggested that they probably contained soup as it is often served at all meal times. I thought that it could also be the base stock for the meals as that would be a lot of soup. The bottom section was the fire box and had a small door for adding fuel. The grate appears to be for any overflow.

I asked this lady if I could take some shots as she worked. No I don't speak Chinese and she didn't speak English but smiling and a little mime goes a long way. She smiled, nodded and continued to work as I clicked away. The savoury pancake she was making looked very tasty.

As soon as I saw these clouds I grabbed the camera. It had been raining earlier but the sky had cleared slightly and the storm clouds were moving away just as the sun started to set. For the past few months I have been working towards and waiting for a work permit to enable me to work in Stanmore UK. I'm pleased to say I now have it and have filled in the online application for a visa. Boy do they know how to ask questions. Someone in cyberspace now knows every detail of my life and charged me $$$ for allowing them to ask. Next I have to front up for a biometric scan. (finger prints and photo) Then I can send my passport and all the bits of paper that prove I didn't tell any fibs in my application and if they are happy I will get an entry clearance. Finally, once that comes back I will be able to spend 24 hours getting there. The up side is the job sounds good and allows for a nice amount of travelling around time. Which means seeing the things on my list (it's long) and photo taking time.

First laid out in 1509 AD, the garden's scenery is focused on a central pond with various buildings of pavilions, terraces, chambers and towers located by the water or on hillocks in a natural, unsophisticated, and appropriate composition. The garden is most representative of Chinese classical gardens in the Ming Dynasty. The Humble Administrator's Garden covers 4 hectares in northeast Suzhou. It is the largest garden of the city and a typical example of the art of horticulture south of the Changjiang river.
