Swanston Street

Excellent vista Aussie: I'd rather be in the tram than being drawn by a horse
Aussie: Yes i'de rather the tram
This is a lovely, tranquil, idyllic street scene, Aussie, like from a year gone by (if it weren't for the van!).
Aussie: It was the perfect picture for converting, except for that van. I was lucky as the traffic had just left from one set of lights and the ones coming up the street were stopped at the ones lower down.
Great photo I cant beleve swanston stret was so quite
Aussie: It wasn't it was just lucky the traffic lights change at the right time
This is an excellent picture, love the B&W in this, those shadows are great in this picture.
Aussie: Thank you Astrid, I really liked those shadows too.
Speaks of a time gone by - had me fooled for a couple of seconds ;o) Great shot.
Aussie: Thank you for dropping by and commenting.
What a wonderful street scene Aussie. I like the infinite perspective on the right.
Aussie: Thank you Richard, I was lucky the traffic was stopped at the lights
The mono is magnificent, as is the scene.
Tell me please, did you take this in colour and then convert it, if so, what 'recipe' did you use to get such sharp contrasts?
Aussie: I used Martins and Les's advice. The original was in colour and it had a pretty high contrast already due to the shadows and sunshine. After coverting from raw (no sharpening). Used photoshop elements and processed the pic so the colours and contrast looked a wee bit over what you would want then coverted to B&W Used the channel mixer and tweaked it until it looked right. Then used unsharp mask to sharpen. Martin had advised to use layers but I have not got the hang of that yet.
Aussie this is a likey for me
Aussie: Thanks Tracy
do you live in a time warp Tracy
Aussie: Hehe, you can call me Tracy if you like. She is younger, taller and much better looking. Thank you Tim 2 compliments for the price of one.
If it was not for the van, I would have a difficult time knowing the year. Lovely shot Aussie
Aussie: The van gave it away, thats for sure. Thanks Michelle.
Aussie this is so old worldly.. Great shot.. Love the charecter. Is this as it is Now?
Aussie: This was taken on 24/1/08. I was just lucky to get the lull between traffic light changes. This is on of the main streets in the city of Melbourne.
Super shot Aussie, makes a great b&w
Aussie: Thanks Bill, it was the perfect shot for converting, in colour it looked a bit over done.
i really like the agregate of time scales here the horse and cart being the 1890's the tram being the 1920's, the van being up to date, very nice shot. mal
Aussie: Thanks Mal, I really liked your portrait shot even though it wasn't a self portrait.
This is a beautiful B&W photo. Would make a great canvas!
Aussie: Thank you Helen, gald you like it.
