Pit 2's lighting was more subdued and there was less area that had been opened, but the walkway was a lot closer to the warriors. In this area they had built a timber roof over the warriors for extra protection, which of course with age had collapsed damaging some of the warriors beyond repair. They are minus their heads as they were either too damaged to piece together or not found.

privileged to be the first to view this
lovely work aussie
Aussie: Thank you DrAW
Very interesting indeed.
Aussie: I tried to imagine what it was like for the first people who came to investigate the farmers find and realised the magnitude of the site. The farmer who dug up the first head is in his 80's and still comes to the site for a few hours every day.
Wonderful i must go and see them myself
Aussie: Well you have nothing to do for the next 3 weeks and it would be great exercise for the knee.
The colour looks pretty good in this pit. I'm so glad you're bringing this amazing work.
Aussie: This pit contained a couple of undamaged kneeling archers that they have displayed in glass cases, but the majority of the pit has not been opened past the timber roof line. There are also lots still lying damaged awaiting restoration. It looks like a massive task that requires years of painstaking work.
wow such an historic place.
Thanks for sharing Regards Christian from Outback Western Australia
Aussie: Thank you for dropping by and commenting.
Your images are fantastic, and you live in an area that I would love to visit some day.
Headless or not, the display still astounds me, Aussie!
Aussie: It has taken a lot of work to get to where they are but you can see that there a years of work ahead of them if they want to unearth the rest. They have found the emporers tomb but are unable to explore it until they find the means to do it without having the whole thing collapse.
Wonderful capture Aussie. The colours are amazing!
Aussie: Many thanks Richard
This is really interesting Aussie: they do say the warriors were modelled on actual people
Aussie: And no two are the same.
I thought these were real horses from the thumbnail! I missed them when they came to London earlier this year, so I'll enjoy seeing them here.
Ingrid
Aussie: They were an amazing sight, you must go if they come for a return visit
They are amazing. A superb photo.
Aussie: Many thanks Paul
It is interesting to see the original. There is a replica of this place here in Houston and maybe 5/6th scale. It is interesting even in that form.
Aussie: We saw heaps of replica's of the pieces during the week prior to arriving in Xian and were amazed by them, but it still didn't prepare us for the awesome sight of the real thing.
Very nicely done Aussie.
Aussie: Nice seeing you back bridge.
Another fantastic shot. Thanks for the glimpse.
Aussie: Thank you Alexandra
Great picture and I am sure a most interesting visit (it would be for me).
Aussie: It was wonderful Louis, I am so pleased I went, now there are just a few thousand other places on my list. Lol
