This looks somewhat too new for 2200 years ago, but the lively colors make it a pleasant industrial scene.

Aussie: No this isn't the old bit, however the original map of the plan for the water flow is now kept behind glass. However even with the massive new dam etc the flow of the water is the same today as it was then.

Maybe this is for tourism purposes only. It does look quite new to me too.

Aussie: No it is part of the modern construction which includes a very large dam that these are used for. However the flow of the water remains the same as it was then. The river was very wide and had a massive amount of water that did not benefit the people living on the plains so the brilliant mind behind the original construction came up with a plan to divert some of the water onto the plains for crop irrigation. I forget how many years it took to construct the channels which allowed them to take just the water they needed, but it was an incredible feat.

I guess it's important to see the new midst the old, Aussie, since they DO have to stay up with the world. I especially like the vanishing-point perspective and the colors.

Aussie: Yes Ginnie, there is now a huge dam that these sit on but the original flow of water remains the same, it's just that concrete has now replaced the original stone banks.

Aussie: It was actually quite interesting to see how the old and the new still fitted the original plan for the flow of water.

Loves the scene here, always have to look when I find something like this, impressive view I think, love the colours.

Aussie: As it was wet overcast and all round horrible weather for taking photos, this was one of the few decent ones I got.

Aussie: This bit is only a small portion of the overall project so you can imagine what an immense task it would have been 2000 years ago without all the modern earth moving machines of today. Even with the modern additions you can still see his original design in how the water flows and is diverted. I dont recall ever seeing a river as wide as this one

I really like the perspective and the colours!

Aussie: This part is a recent addition as is a big concrete dam. It is constructed in a valley so you approach it from the side of a mountain. The view of the whole project is amazing as you can see the original design and flow of water. In those days almost everything was designed to represent an animal or mythical creature. His design represented the back and tail of a dragon to slow the flow of water and divert it onto the plains so it could be used for agriculture.

Aussie: Thank you Bill, I would have liked to post a decent photo of the project taken from the side of the mountain, but as it sat in a valley and it was wet, overcast etc, non of the ones I took really showed it to any great degree. The river is immense and until you see how big it is you can't appreciate how massive this project would have been 2000 years ago.

I like the shape and colour of this machinery as it recedes to the back of the picture Aussie, and the info is interesting as well.
