As in kookaburra, Aussie...that kind of gum??!! I had no idea it was so mammoth.

Aussie: No kookaburra's in this one. They can grow to massive proportions. This one is on the river bank (Wimmera River) in Horsham Victoria. I was trying to get some decent shots of 2 Eastern Rosella's when they flew up into it and I realised what a nice shot it presented.

That streaky effect on the bark is similar to the London Planr tree - which obviously is quite common here Aussie

Aussie: When I was in Ireland I visited a garden that had been planted with exotic trees from all over the world and as the bus drove up the driveway there was 3 very tall straight gum trees. Yes I took a photo of these very exotic trees.

Is this the same as eucalyptus tree?

Aussie: Yes it's a eucalyptus there, are over 600 different species. The foliage varies from linear to heart shaped with young and adult leaves being markedly different making identification difficult. In forest moutain areas you wouldn't see one like this as they grow tall and straight. Some can go without water for 12 months. In the northern territory they have some that have beautiful salmon coloured trunks. The colour of the flowers can also vary with each species. white, red or yellow.

When I was a kid I climb and fell out of that type of tree.the tone is fab

Aussie: I was a bit of a tomboy and climbed them as well, didn't fall but used to rip my dresses and get into trouble. Know you are having a wonderful time and will come home with heaps of fantastic images.

WOW Aussie, this is some tree, I have been reading the comments and replies....a joy for the eye, love the tones.

This is a very fine homage to the Eucalypt...looks a little like a River Red Gum.
