photoblog image Forest Kingfisher

Forest Kingfisher

Often mistaken for the Azure Kingfisher who shares same blue head and wing  colour however they have a yellow spot infront of their eyes and yellow breast feathers.

I have lived in Rockhampton for a tad over 3 years. For at least 2 and 1/2 I have been trying to capture this little kingfisher with the lens. They are very quick and appear quite shy unlike their cousin the Kookaburra. I wasn't very close and couldn't get any closer as this tree stands in water. Swamp areas are often where they are found. He also changed trees everytime I moved. Finally I have a shot that isn't just a blurr of colour as he flies off.Smile Now I just have to get a bigger lens for the ultimate close-up.

Your hard work has paid off - even if it's not a closer view - he is really beautiful - looking like a jewel in the tree!

You have always been a good hunter
A beautiful little bird. Our native kingfisher is also elusive and I have only seen one once in my life!

Maureen and I have always wanted to see a Kingfisher and never have. This is quite different to the ones in England.
