photoblog image HOOKED

HOOKED

The area I would never be shopping in. The black flat rails are for the hooks, that are used for animal carcases. In the very early morning they are loaded up with the whole bodies from the loading docks then moved to the individual shops for the butchers to cut up.

The subject, framing, and black and white choices all work really well. There is something a little off focus though, as if the camera moved a bit when you were taking it.
Aussie: Thanks Jewlya, I have to confess that I still get nervous when taking photos when people are walking towards me and tend to hurry. Will have to get over it if I want to improve.
Simultaneously gruesome and beautiful.
Aussie: It was surreal in colour as these are painted a pale pink and mauve and looked quite pretty.

I like the B&W tones in this picture, the lighting is good, very well spotted and I like the way you cropped it. (I saw the shuttertime, try next time, before you take the picture, take a deep breath and while hitting th buttun let the breath out....Louis does it too and it works grin )
Aussie: There was lots of people and I'm still not comfortable taking pics with people watching or thinking I'm taking them, so hurry to much. Thanks for the hint though, maybe the deep breath would help me relax.
Very nice composition. I like the lghts perspective!
Aussie: Thank you Richard

Nough said about the slight blur. Try a minimal diffusing glow filter and see what it looks like then smile

What is this about looking after teenagers?
Aussie: I must give that a go, I like these type of suggestions. Teenage grandchildren whose parents have escaped for a weeks R&R
Aussie, I believe that for this scene you must have tried to up 400 ISO and to use a tripod, right? I do not finish seeing clear the image! B&W is good.!
Aussie: No it's not the best and was due to me rushing the shot. Thank you for the suggestion.

An interesting glimpse of something I don't know much about!
Aussie: My youngest is a butcher by trade (doesn't work at it now) So thats how I knew what they are for.
I'm glad you took the photo before the animals were hanging.
Aussie: That is usually long before the public arrive. When my youngest (butcher by trade) worked at Footscray market he used to start work at 3 am.

You've almost put me off meat.
Aussie: I dont eat it, but only because I disliked the taste as I got older.

This almost looks like an abstract with many lines and curves. Nicely done and I don't mind if it is a little out of focus.
Aussie: Thank you Kathryn, That was what I liked about it.

Needs must I'm afraid, I like to eat meat and this is part of the reality of the food chain we use.

I like the geometry of the picture and also, somehow, the sense of movement.
Aussie: The only reason I don't eat it is because I started to dislike the taste and texture as I got older. My grandparents had a farm so slaughtering sheep or a bull was a routine event. We only refused to eat anything if we knew it was one of the lambs we had bottle feed.
It's a little unsharp but the message is clear. I have a vegetarian daughter who just doesn't want to eat flesh! I could never give up bacon sandwichessmile
Aussie: I ate heaps when I was younger, just don't like the taste anymore. Like the smell of a B-B-Q and still eat chicken now and again.
