This is my first attempt at trying to grow orchids. I have always
thought they were expensive and hard to grow. I didn't pay full price
because the local hardware shop sells them a lot cheaper once they have
lost their flowers. This flowered 3 weeks after I got it so I can't
claim any great success.

My bro-in-law grew orchids so I brought seeds home from Australia for him. Had to get permits and all kinds of hassles and I don't think he ever did anything with them.
This looks like one of those orchids that resembles an insect, but I haven't a clue which one. Weren't you lucky to get one that was so close to flowering.
I've got one orchid plant, it seems to thrive on neglect
