An Australian Kingfisher which has a very distinct laughing call. This
one is fairly young and he/she flew down and was just quietly sitting
in the tree next to my deck, without realising I was sitting at the
patio table. I had been taking some macro shots of cacti flowers
so had my 60mm macro lens on the camera. He was in the shade so I shot
it in raw mode then processed in canon raw editor.

Of course we had always heard of kookaburras and I wanted to see one when in AU. I immediately recognised that it was a type of kingfisher as it's unmistakable. Their call is certainly different than the belted kingfisher that I am accustomed to though. Their habits are similar too. Very nice shot.
very nice capture with a 60mm! you must have been quite close?
nice post-processing!
Aussie: Thank you. The deck is fairly high because the block has a sharp slope. It sits next to this tree. but I cropped the rest of the branch off so the original showed more of the tree. The lens is a canon and I use it a lot.
